GEORGE COBB (1787-1877) - SOLICITOR & OWNER OF THE BRIGHTON THEATRE

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT

In the Name of God Amen

I, George Cobb, of Brighthelmston in the County of Sussex, Esquire do make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner following. I direct all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and charges to be paid out of my personal estate and effects. I nominate and appoint Edward Madge Hore of 52 Lincolns Inn Fields, in the County of Middlesex, Esquire, Executor of this my will. I give to my Executor, the said Edward Madge Hore, the sum of three hundred pounds and to each of his sisters Elizabeth Hore and Cecilia Hore and his brother Charles Hore the sum of three hundred pounds. I give to my godson John Woodcock, son of my deceased friend William Woodcock of Wilton near Salisbury, the sum of three hundred pounds and to his brother William Henry Woodcock the sum of three hundred pounds. I give to Elizabeth Cole, my servant, the sum of one thousand pounds and to each of all my sisters, if living at my decease, the sum of two hundred pounds and to my friends John Cochran of Clifton Terrace, Brighton and to his grand daughter Elenor Phillips each the sum of fifty pounds for a ring and I give all the above legacies clear and free of the legacy duty and I declare my freehold estate and property shall not be liable to the payment of all or any of the said legacies. And as to all the rest, Residue and remainder of my freehold, leasehold and personal estate, monies, effects and things of every description whatever and wheresoever and of what nature soever that I am now possessed of or hereafter may have, I give, devise and bequeath the same and every part and parcel thereof unto my nephew Joseph Cobb of No. 2 Sloane Street, Middlesex, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns to hold the same for ever. And I do hereby direct my said executor and his heirs, executors and administrators from time to time to reimburse himself and themselves all costs, charges and expenses for and on account of his executorship created for carrying my will into effect. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twenty fifth day of July one thousand eight hundred and seventy three-George Cobb-signed, sealed, published and declared by the said George Cobb the testator, as and for his last will and testament in the joint presence of us who, in his presence, at his request and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses - Geo, Chapman, Law Stationer, 17 Ship Street, Brighton, Chas. W. Blackman, 6 Bloomsbury Street, Brighton, Clerk to the above Geo. Chapman.

I the within named testator George Cobb do direct and order that this shall be a codicil and part of my within last will and testament which will bears date the twenty fifth day of July one thousand eight hundred and seventy three and do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my nephew the within named Joseph Cobb to be and act as an Executor thereof in full conjunction with the within named Edward Madge Hore and that he shall be at full liberty to use all and every the rights, requirements and authorities within created and given to the said Edward Madge Hore as an executor, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this fourteenth day of October one thousand eight hundred and seventy five -George Cobb- signed and declared by the said George Cobb as and for a codicil to his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses - Geo. Chapman, Law Stationer, 17 Ship Street, Brighton, Chas. W. Blackman, Clerk to the said Geo. Chapman.

Proved at London with a codicil 11th January 1878 by the oaths of Edward Madge Hore the Executor named in the Will and Joseph Cobb the Nephew the Executor named in the codicil to whom Admon was granted.
